Choice of Home and Admissions: Prior to admission the Registered Manager will carry out a detailed pre-admission assessment, usually in conjunction with other health and/or social care professionals, to ensure that the Home is able to meet the required Care needs and provide a safe and secure environment. We encourage prospective residents, and their families and advocates, to visit the Home prior to admission to allow the opportunity to meet staff and residents and to ask any questions regarding their Care or the Home. By consultation, and with agreement, a Care Plan will be compiled that details individual Care needs and lifestyle choices and how Tenby House will meet them. Resident’s views are invaluable to ensure that this Care Plan reflects all their needs and wishes, and we also welcome input from relatives and friends. Care Plans are continuously reviewed and revised where necessary to reflect any changes in requirements. Tenby House is unable to provide emergency admissions without a pre-admission assessment having taken place and is unable to offer residency to those who require Nursing Care. Resident's Rights: Privacy and dignity is central to our philosophy of care at Tenby House and runs through all of our working practices. On joining the home all staff are instructed, as part of their induction, to respect residents and preserve their dignity at all times. Arrangements for ensuring that our residents are treated with respect and dignity are clearly shown in our policies, procedures and actions. Visitors: We strongly believe that residents should maintain as much contact as possible with their families, friends, representatives and local community groups and volunteers as they wish. No restrictions are placed on visits to the Home. Residents and visitors can have private and quality time either within their rooms or in any part of the Home or the grounds. As Tenby House is primarily the home of our residents we have no restrictions on visiting hours. However, for the benefit of residents who retire to bed early we encourage visitors to arrive before 8pm so as to reduce any noise or additional disturbances. Visitors are encouraged to participate in social events such as pantomimes, musicals, parties and meals. We do ask that all visitors inform a senior member of staff before 10am on the day the visit if a meal is required so we are able to cater for any special dietary requirements. On the grounds of safety, and for insurance purposes, all visitors, without exception, are expected to enter their details in the ‘Visitors Book’ and sign out on departure. All visitors are expected to respect the privacy and dignity of all residents at all times. Meals: Our experienced catering staff will carefully prepare meals that are as interesting and varied as possible. Meals are prepared freshly each day on-site at Tenby House using high quality ingredients from local fresh produce suppliers. Choices of meal are available at lunch and teatime and special diets are catered for and the advice of experts is sought wherever necessary. There is always a range of snacks available for residents to enjoy between meals and tea, coffee and soft drinks are available on request. We encourage residents to use the dining room at mealtimes. However, some residents may prefer to dine in their rooms, therefore this option is always offered. All meals, snacks, supplements and drinks are provided within the service fees. Medical Care: Staff are always available to plan and supervise residents’ care, ensuring the highest standards at all times. Our staff follow the Home’s policies regarding the safe administration of medicines in accordance with NHS, Department of Health and NMC guidelines/protocols. Medications are secured in a safe place and administered to the residents’ at the intervals as stated by their Doctor. Advice and assistance will be provided to service users for any self-medication, on approval of the residents GP. Regular risk assessments will be made to ensure that the required medication is being taken in the correct dosage. A local GP visits the Home on a weekly basis to offer advice and assistance. This service is an inclusive part of the care regime at the Home and there is no additional charge for this. Residents may of course retain their own Doctor if this is practical. As Tenby House is not a Nursing Home, visiting community nurses and Primary Care team staff will provide any required Nursing care. Optician, Dentist, Physiotherapist And Chiropodist: Arrangements to visit the Optician and Dentist can be made though a member of staff. Residents are free to make their own arrangements if they prefer and are able to do so. Physiotherapy can be arranged as necessary. A chiropodist visits monthly, although there is a separate charge for this service. Hairdressing: Arrangements for a residents’ personal hairdresser to visit Tenby House or the hairdressers salon can be made. This service will be at an additional charge. Personal Telephones: We have a public pay phone in the main entrance that Residents have access to. Incoming calls can be taken to the resident, subject to availability of the cordless phone. Residents may have their own private telephone in their rooms. The installation and ongoing costs of such a service will be at the residents’ expense. Administration Support is available to our residents and our staff will follow the appropriate policies and procedures on this matter. We do however recommend that residents take support from their relatives or representatives wherever possible and/or practicable. The Home has an in-house laundry that is used to launder residents clothing. This is a free service and should any resident wish to make use of it we do ask that clothing is labelled. Unfortunately, we cannot launder any items unless they are machine washable. There are no facilities for residents to do their own laundry. Dry Cleaning can be provided at cost plus a service charge for collection and delivery and can be arranged with the Registered Manager. Arrangements for Pets: Although many residents have a favourite animal or pet, there are some who prefer not to have pets within the Home. Therefore, the keeping of pets at Tenby House is not permitted. We also make this stipulation to minimise the discomfort for asthmatics and those who are allergic to animal hair. Visitors with pets will only be able to bring these pets into the Home at the discretion of the proprietors or Registered Manager, and is subject to an assessment that takes into account the thoughts and preferences of other residents. Where pets have been allowed into the Home they must be controlled at all times and not be allowed to roam free. A charge to the pet owners will be made should their pet cause any damage or soiling. The proprietors or manager retain the right to request the removal from the pet from the Home at any time.
